Become a Scientist for a Day
Discover the world of cosmic rays like an astroparticle physicist

On Thursday, November 30, 2017, the sixth edition of the International Cosmic Day will take place: students from all over the world will participate in activities related to cosmic ray physics, interacting with researchers who work in this fascinating field. The initiative is organized by the DESY research center and, over the years, has seen a growing number of students from schools across the globe.

This year, Centro Ricerche Enrico Fermi is joining the event, involving hundreds of students participating in the Extreme Energy Events (EEE) Project. During the International Cosmic Day, EEE students will meet at one of nine Italian locations identified for this activity, where they will be welcomed by researchers of the Project.

The day will begin with a joint video connection among all EEE participants, featuring talks by Prof. L. Cifarelli, Prof. A. Zichichi, and EEE researchers. A second phase will follow, during which the students will analyze data collected by EEE telescopes to extract the angular distribution of secondary cosmic rays. The day will conclude with a discussion and presentation of results, both at the national level and internationally, together with the other schools participating in the ICD ([link to program]).

Through this initiative, students will have the chance to share their EEE experience with peers worldwide, exchanging information about their work just as scientists do in real research collaborations.
