"Giornate di studio" Progetto EEE

On April 15, 2015, a study day dedicated to schools requesting participation in the EEE – Science in Schools Project and not yet having a muon detection telescope was held at Centro Fermi. The event saw 22 schools from across Italy (from Trento to Caltanissetta, citing the two at extreme latitudes), for a total of about fifty participants including teachers, students, and Centro Fermi experts. After welcoming remarks and introduction to the proceedings by Centro President Prof. Luisa Cifarelli and Director Dr. Giancarlo Righini, presentations followed by Prof. Piero Galeotti (University of Turin), Dr. Daniele de Gruttola (Centro Fermi), Dr. Despina Hatzifotiadou (INFN Bologna and CERN), Dr. Silvia Miozzi (INFN Frascati), Prof. Giovanni Batignani (University and INFN Pisa), and Dr. Ivan Gnesi (Centro Fermi). After a brief historical overview of cosmic ray theory and experiments, the features of the muon telescopes used in the EEE Project and the scientific results already achieved were described. It was emphasized that data collected by active telescopes are available to the entire EEE Collaboration for telescope operation monitoring and data analysis. Therefore, all schools, even without their own telescope, can actively participate in the Project and feel truly part of a high-energy physics experiment.
