On March 28, 2014, Professor Zichichi delivered the lecture “Bringing Science to the Hearts of Young People” in Cosenza, before the students of the G.B. Scorza Scientific High School and city authorities. Originally scheduled for October 2013 as part of the Centro Fermi “EEE – Science in Schools” Project activities but postponed due to his last-minute impediment, the event marked a key outreach effort in cosmic ray physics education.
Accompanied by school principal Mario Nardi and Franco Mollo (the EEE Project promoter at Liceo Scorza, a recently retired physics teacher), Zichichi officially inaugurated the laboratory housing the telescope for detecting cosmic muons. The lab’s opening in October 2013, attended by Centro Fermi Director Giancarlo Righini, was enabled by collaboration with the University of Calabria’s Physics Department, represented at the conference by its director, Riccardo Barberi.
