As a good practice, 2019 has already began for the schools of the EEE Project. A meeting involving 40 schools and 160 among students, teachers and researchers, has been held in Turin, within the beautiful auditorium of the Cavallerizza Reale at the University of Turin.
The leitmotif of the three days of studies and lectures, from 6th to 8th of March, has been the Time, and its central role played at the EEE observatory: indeed the Time is the main tool for searching the very rare cosmic events the EEE Collaboration is studying.
The Fermi Center invited the National Institute of Metrology Research (INRIM) and its researchers of the Time-Frequency Division to introduce the participants to the fundamentals of time measurement; even more to the use of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) systems for synchronizing atomic clocks at large distances. The target is the optimization of the observatory sensitivity to these rare events.
Professor Antonino Zichichi opened the three days with an inspirational speech. Students and teachers were then involved in masterclasses, lectures and experimental measurements.
No doubt they (and we as well) will be thinking about Time in a different light…
