ICD 2018, millions of cosmic tracks analyzed by EEE Project students

On Thursday 29th November 2018 the seventh edition of International Cosmic Day, annually organized by the DESY Research Center has taken place. For the second time the Centro Fermi participated this year to the initiative, replicating the success of the past edition: 680 students of Extreme Energy Events Project, coming from 58 Italian High schools, have analyzed millions of cosmic tracks. The EEE students have joined the nearest Universities, Research Centres or High Schools, where they spent the day by discussing about cosmic rays, by analyzing the data collected by means of the EEE telescopes, and by sharing their results with other students from all around the world. By using the videoconference tools used by the scientific community, the students have been initially introduced by the EEE researcher to cosmic rays and to the analysis to be performed. Afterwards, guided by researchers working in this field, they analyzed the data collected by means of the EEE telescopes, with the aim to extract the angular distribution of secondary cosmic rays. Finally they discussed the obtained results with other schools participating to the ICD. The President of the Centro Fermi, Prof. L. Cifarelli, during a welcome message given to the students, encouraged them to study cosmic rays properties and to be proud to participate to such a initiative (https://icd.desy.de/).
