The Extreme Energy Events – Science in Schools Project, conceived and led by Prof. A. Zichichi, has gained one more detector. On March 7, 2018, a new EEE telescope was inaugurated at the Gian Battista Quadri Scientific High School in Vicenza, whose Principal is Prof. P. Jacolino, in collaboration with Centro Fermi, directed by President Prof. L. Cifarelli, Scientific Director Dr. R. Nania, and the national coordinator of the experiment, Prof. M. Abbrescia.
The telescope was built at CERN in Geneva by the school’s students, under the supervision of Prof. David Merlin and Prof. Aldo Pegoraro. The inauguration took place during ScienzAvventura, a week entirely dedicated to a range of scientific activities.
The conference, attended by over 300 students in the school’s main hall, featured the students involved in the project, who gave a presentation explaining how the telescope works. Their talk was followed by a seminar given by Dr. F. Coccetti, who illustrated the main goals of the EEE Project and the current challenges in physics.
Dr. O. Pantano, coordinator of the Scientific Degrees Project at the University of Padua, sent her support and interest in the school’s activities within the EEE Project — an initiative that is about to become a School–Work Alternation Project through an agreement being finalized between Centro Fermi and Liceo Quadri.
The morning has been concluded with the cutting of the inaugural ribbon and a toast, with the hope that the telescope will detect many Extreme Energy Events!
