Mission accomplished! 23 students from high schools in Italy (Liceo Marconi Foggia, Liceo Marconi Parma, Liceo Scacchi Bari, Liceo Duca degli Abruzzi Treviso, Liceo Galileo Ferraris Torino e Liceo Giolitti-Gandino Bra), Norway (Licei Horten, Nesodden and Sandnes), and Switzerland (Collège Voltaire from Geneva) were the main actors in the construction of two detectors which will be used during the PolarQuEEEst mission, extension of the Extreme Energy Events project of the Centro Fermi. From 22 to 24 May, three days of intense work to assemble the telescopes that will be used in this project: one telescope will be on board of the Nanuq, a high-tech sail boat leaving on mid July from Isajfordur, in Iceland, and which will circum-navigate the Svalbard archipelago, to finally dock at Tromsø, in Norway, at the beginning of September. The telescope on board will measure the cosmic rays flux during the boat trip, in particular at latitudes greater than 80°N; at the same time the cosmic rays flux will be measured by the other two telescopes, installed one in an Italian and the other in a Norwegian high school. The students, guided by researched from Centro Fermi and INFN, have enthusiastically taken part to the construction of the two detectors, like in the best tradition of the Extreme Energy Events project. Prof. Antonino Zichichi, founder of the EEE project, also lectured the students involved in this endeavor. The intense construction work was interspersed with other lectures, in addition to the one already cited, and visits to the CERN laboratories and experiments, that allowed the students to breath in the intense scientific activity of this research center renowned world-wide. It was with great satisfaction that the students contemplated the results of their work: the detectors are perfectly working and ready for three weeks of tests, before being shipped to their respective installation sites. Therefore: mission accomplished; and ready for the next goal!
