A delegation from the Moscow Chemical Lyceum, a school for talented kids specialized in chemistry and physics in Moscow, visited Thursday 14 September le Extreme Energy Events laboratory located at the “Scipione Staffa” Institute in Trinitapoli. The delegation, composed by six students, Andranik Zebelyan, Tatiana Kadykova, Daria Vysotskaia, Nikolay Nechaev, Egor Filatov, Iurii Pustovalov and two teachers, Olga Starunova e Anna Dronzik, was accompanied by Vladimir Peskov, worldwide known expert in particle detectors, and by the EEE project responsible, Marcello Abbrescia.
The delegation was in visit to the Physics Department of the Bari University, where for a week they have been visiting the local laboratories and worked on masterclasses analyzing the data collected by the EEE telescopes network. At Trinitapoli, it was received by the school principal, Carmine Gissi, the major, Francesco di Feo, who gifted the Russian delegation of the city’s coat of arms, by the local responsibles of the EEE project at the Institute, Giacomo di Staso and Margherita Lafata, and, of course, by the whole student population.
The meeting represented the starting point of a scientific and cultural exchange process between the two Institutes, which are going to twin in the near future, and to collaborate together by reciprocally inviting students and teachers from the other institute to their own site. It went on in a joyful and cordial atmosphere, with the schools presenting themselves, a reciprocal gifts exchange, and a nice parenthesis of Italian and Russian songs; then, a mixed Italian-Russian team of student took care of the daily monitoring of the EEE telescope located at the school. Francesco Di Niso, student from the Staffa Institute, while welcoming the guests, said: “Today with your visit you have changed our life forever: your brotherhood, your friendship remind us we could live in a different world in which in the name of science and progress it could be peace.” This is the spirit of the EEE project!
